My first post here and it's an interesting one... hopefully you guys can help...
Background: The wife kind of "inherited" this 2002 Sonata, 4DR, 6 cyl from her grandmother a few months back... The car is an awesome car and the crazy thing is it has less than 30k miles on her. We've replaced certain things anyway like all the belts (including timing belt) etc.
We're driving on the highway about 65mph and the front left tire blew out pretty violently. So much so that the half the outer treading of the tire flies off damaging the front left fender and the left side "skirt" flies off. The bottom portion of the fender (closest to the driver door) bends inward and appear to slice some the wires that travel under the fender to the main fuse box behind the battery.
When the blow out occurred I immediately pull over as the car began to go nuts. The windshield wiper fluid began to shoot out on it own, the horn began to go off like an alarm was activated, and the part that scares me the most is that the engine wouldn't shut off. I got out and and unplugged the horns, the wiper fluid just stopped on its own but pulled the key out of the ignition yet the engine was still running. It probably ran hot as well. Somehow by putting the key in and turning it on and off and then pulling the key out got the engine to shut off... either that or it just died.
This was 2 days ago... I have since fixed the wiring... attempted to start the car and I get nothing other then all the normal electrical lights and stuff. (Radio, horn, all that works). I found the fuse the ignition switch was blown so I replaced that and now I get a click and a humm as if the starter is trying to turn on but isn't cranking...
I guess I'm looking for some insight... My next thought is to replace the starter but I'm dumbfounded as to how the starter was damaged from this "blowout" so I'm thinking there may be something I'm overlooking and wondering if maybe you guys/gals can help me out... Any thoughts!?
Thanks in advance!
