I have only put just over 200 miles on my Santa Fe and I will be getting a new rear bumper assembly.
When I took delivery of the car it was sundown, because the dealer had to transfer the vehicle from another dealer. My son noticed several scratches on the plastic part of the passenger side rear bumper. Not sure how it happened, but it was minor so I still took delivery of the car.
Took it in yesterday to get the marks in the plastic "buffed out," or whatever they do. The dealership called and said the car was finished (I had the bumper repaired and a clear mask installed).
I walked by the vehicle on my way into service to get the key and noticed the bumper was actually worse than when I brought it in. Evidently the repair technician (whoever works on paint, etc) had held the heat gun on near the plastic a little to long and it melted the plastic beyond repair. He attempted the repair but it still looks horrible.
I was thinking to myself that I better tell them that this repair is not satisfactory. I mentioned to the service writer and she said they had already discussed the matter and they were ordering me a new bumper to the tune of $600. I felt kind of bad for the dealership to have to eat the cost but I am glad they took complete responsibility.
Hoping my new bumper matches the original especially if it includes the section of the bumper that is painted Iron Frost.
I will let you know how things turn out next Wednesday--they had to order the part.
