The star of the movie is an ambitious snail named Turbo, voiced by Ryan Reynolds of "Green Lantern" and "The Proposal" fame. Turbo is obsessed with cars and racing to the point of neglecting his responsibilities. While the other snails are busy gathering tomatoes and doing their chores around the garden, Turbo is pretending to be a racer and daydreaming about speeding down the track with the cars he idolizes. Eventually, Turbo's daydreams get him in trouble with the rest of the snails, who have had it with his obsession, and they kick him out for slowing down their production. Shortly after Turbo is cast out of his clan of fellow snails, he encounters a series of dangerous mishaps and is eventually sucked into the engine of a car in the middle of a race. The nitrous oxide drenches Turbo and transforms his body into a miniature racing machine.
