2013 elantra defective rear crossmember rear tire wear

Registered to this forum to warn Elantra owners and potential buyers about a serious problem with these cars. Other Hyundai's already have recalls in place for similar problems.

I own a 2013 Elantra that I bought new. Within 10,000 miles the rear tires were nearly bald. Second set of tires put on the rear cupped badly within 5,000 miles.

To make a long story short and skip all the details, according to the dealer the car has a bent rear cross member, basically part of the sub frame.

The dealer will not acknowledge the defect but instead blames the problem on me, saying I was in an accident or hit potholes.

As I now know, this is a problem many Elantra owners have had. Sometimes the dealership or the company itself will make good on this defect, ($1600 to replace the crossmember) most will not.

I would like to warn anyone that owns this car to be aware of this common defect as well as warn any potential Elantra buyers to think twice, or at least be aware of this problem going in.

I am currently still trying to pursue cooperation from the management of the dealership. Hyundai customer service turned out to be uninterested and merely parroted the line from the service agent that I bent the "axle". If anyone else has advice on how to move the dealership and or the corporation to make this right, I'd like to hear it. As it stands now I am prepared to start contacting the Better Business Bureau, the Attorney General's office and other legal counsel if Hyundai continues to refuse to cooperate.

I essentially bought a lemon, a car with a bent frame. I wasn't the first, I won't be the last. But hopefully this post will result in less car owners getting victimized as I currently am.
