So I have a 2011 Elantra GLS. It was one of the first Elantras off the truck when they came out. Just wanted to give you a current review on where it stands today:
58,000 miles. No mechanical problems.
No new brakes
New set of tires. New tires are 100 times better than the stockers. It is much quieter and drives nicer on the highway. Less wandering on freeways at speed.
I have a rattle underneath the car at idle. I think it is a heat shield on the exhaust. I need to find it and stop it. Only hear it while idling at stops or at startup.
It's black. The paint is in great condition but it only stays clean for 22 minutes after you wash it. No more black paint!
Grey cloth interior. Marketed as stain resistant. BS!! Stains with water. Makes spots on the seats that wont; come out unless you soak the entire seat. Otherwise the outer ring of the spot will never disappear. This is one of my biggest gripes. The cloth is HORRIBLE!! Don't buy the cloth if you have children in the back or EVER plan on eating/drinking in the car! Ever!
Top of dash near windshield. The black part. Get sticky in the heat. Collects dust. can't be cleaned. Seems to always be sticky and collect "fuzz" from carpet and towels.
My wife gets 29mpg on about every tank. Combined highway/city driving.
The car looks great! The styling is so much better than the Corolla and the Sentra. It is futuristic and swoopy. It gets compliments for a compact little car.
Interior is put together nice. Nice texture and plastics. Controls are well laid out and easy to use.
It drives nice and is comfortable, for a little car. It is quite inside.
Fit and finish is fine. Nothing special, but it doesn't feel cheap.
It hates wind! Driving it across the desert to Vegas in the wind is unnerving. It feels like a beer can rolling down the road.
Would I buy another Elantra? Yes! For the money I think it is a great car.
Would I buy another Hyundai? Yes! I think the car is well built, reliable and pretty nice to drive. In fact I am shopping for another Hyundai now.
