Hi All. Lately I've noticed my car makes a more pronounced ticking/clacking noise at startup. It has always had that "screws in a blender" noise since I bought it for about the first 15-20 seconds, but lately, it has been making a more pronounced, less high-frequency clicking noise. I'm hoping it's not the early stages of a failure of the high-pressure fuel pump, as I know that's a very expensive fix.
If it does need replacing, I'm wondering if it's covered under the powertrain warranty. My father-in-law, who has owned an independent garage for more than 40 years, and has worked on a variety of models said sometimes the OEs are tricky about what's specifically included or excluded from the warranty, and said the fuel system might not be covered. I think it would be very strange not to consider the fuel system part of the powertrain.
Anyone have any experience, or have had to replace the HP pump?
