Hey folks,
Recently I began having issues with the CD player on my LTD Elantra not ejecting. I took it into the dealership and they said I would need to make an appointment to replace the stereo head unit under warranty. I did exactly that and shortly after we went in, sat for a few hours and then collected the vehicle with a supposedly new OEM unit.
A few weeks later the issue again ensued, leaving me wondering, how the heck does the same thing break twice. I took it back to the dealer and they said the part is no longer under warranty but you should keep it for the radio. I asked them if I could see what was malfunctioning so they took me to the back and showed me their screen. Lo behold, the screen showed they did NOT replace the OEM unit to begin with in the first place, instead they had "greased" the old one and sent me on my way.
At this point I was thoroughly irritated, not only had they lied about replacing the unit under warranty they were now telling me they were not liable for the current state of the unit. If they had done it right the first time I wouldn't be having this issue!!! I escalated the situation up to the service manager, who did his best to ensure I would not receive a replacement.
Finally after much back and forth they agreed to replace the unit, but said the OEM unit was discontinued?! Yet they were supposedly able to order it a mere 3 weeks before?! Nevertheless, they said they would find an OEM unit and replace my broken one. It just so happens that I was unable to go in person the day the switch was to be made and thus my wife collected the vehicle. When I got home she told me how ugly it looked. Puzzled, I checked the car too see an aftermarket Sony unit. What the heck?!
So now, not only does it NOT fit correctly in the slot (I have one of those Elantra's with the radio and storage right beneath), the steering wheel controls have been rendered useless. I am extremely frustrated. I didn't pay for aLimited Elantra to have features removed! Is installing an aftermarket unit even allowed under warranty? Can I file a complaint with Hyundai Corporate? Can I file a complaint against the dealership? This is absolutely unacceptable. I love my car, and know Hyundai is making some great cars now, but this has left a very sour taste. Unless it's resolved I cannot see myself purchasing another Hyundai. Please Help.
