Advice Needed On Clutch & Flywheel

Hi all,

New here so hello to all. I have a problem with my 02 Santa Fe which otherwise drives fine for its age.

I know I need the clutch replacing because when I am trying to gather speed the Rev indicator fly up like a crazy thing while no speed occurs in the car.

My other problem is a mystery to everyone I have asked about it thus far.

Basically, if I am in say a car park or I slow in traffic, as soon as I go into second or first gear, my foot goes on the clutch pedal and then onto the brake but the brake sort of sticks, I find it hard to stop and have nearly hit people and walls a few times now save for the handbrake!

It doesn't happen in a higher gear if I slow down from speed and stop.

I've been told by one person that it sounds like the pressure plates and having the clutch replaced will sort it out. But then, when I dropped it at the garage for an initial clutch quote of 600 pounds, the guy there told me it may be the dual mass flywheel which may cost an additional 300 or more.

Any advice for when he calls with a diagnosis? Should I trust him? I know a fair bit about cars but as a woman driver I'm concerned that he's trying to pull the wool over my eyes a bit!
