What mastic/glue will hold chrome trim securely

Heard a weird noise the other day driving the '02 Sonata. Finally realized a strip of chrome trim above rear door was half off, vibrating in the wind. This is one of two pieces of chrome trim above the driver-side doors that are originally mounted on a rubber strip just above the doors at the roof line. I can tell this has come off before as there is a slight crease where it has bent, and there are remnants of at least three different types of hard glue inside the strip, with some remaining on the rubber.

I cleaned this all up and tried to use a gel type super glue, but it did not really bond well to the rubber and really dries too fast to adjust the strip into its proper position. I think some type mastic would be better if it hardens enough to really bond chrome to rubber. It obviously must be weather resistant. Almost tempted to try JB Weld, but that is probably a last desperate choice.

All suggestions are welcome. I'd like to have the car ready for granddaughter to take back to college. She has my '03 now.
