P0240 code but not sure if its catalytic converter

hi all

I have a 2005 Hyundai Elantra GLS with 89xxx miles on it. I recently had a transmission flush at firestone. After the flush the CEL came on. I went back to Firestone and asked them to diagnose the problem (and they charged me freaking $79.00 for what they did to my car:mad:). The mechanic said that the issue is with my fuel cap, if I get it changed it should probably fix the issue, I did that from autozone but CEL came on in a couple of days. Well I have already lost faith in firestone so I got the code checked at autozone, it came up as P0420. I am aware that there is a high chance that my cat is dead.

After all this happened I drove my car to Chicago on a weekend and the total run was around 700 miles. My car has never before delivered such a good fuel efficiency before, I got 31.5/gal.

Now as I searched online if cat is bad fuel efficiency should get worse but my case seems to be opposite, due to this I assume that the cat is ok, however I do not know about the oxygen sensor, its just an assumption and a professional diagnosis is due for a conclusion. I am planning to wait till 2013 July end to get this thing fixed.

My question is that is it possible that catalytic converter has gone bad?
If yes is it safe to drive the car?(I drive this car for 8-10 miles a day)

Any suggestions are welcome :Don what the problem may be or any diagnosis I can do at a users level.

I have attached the receit from autozone(it says kia but this was a printing mistake by autozone guys).
