Earlier this winter my CEL on my 2007 Sonata 2.4 came on with a P2187 DTC.
Since the weather was
not conducive to working on cars outside, I cleared it to see if it would come
back. It came back over a week later. I ignored it for the next two months,
occasionally clearing it and it coming back a week or two later. During this
time the car has been running fine. It is running very smooth at idle and I
have been checking the gas mileage and it has not changed. Finally a decent
day came to look at it. I sprayed starting fluid around the air intake tube and
as best I could around the intake manifold but without a straw on the spray ,
I'm not sure I got the spray in the correct place on the intake manifold. The
Air intake tube looked to be in good condition without any cracks or loose
brackets/clamps. At no time did the engine change speed or sound.
Question 1) What/where else should I look for on the Air inlet tube?
Question 2) If I need to buy a new can to get one with a straw/tube, do I
buy carb cleaner or starting fluid.
Q3) I have read post that say that the engine will stall and others that say
rev up when it inhales the fluid, which is it?
Q4) How best to spray around the Intake manifold? Can I hit the correct spot
straight down from the top or do I need to come in from the side?
Q5) Cyl number 1 is on the front (near belt) of the engine , right?
I would like to find what the problem is so that my mechanic will not need to
replace multiple parts until the problem goes away. That can get expensive in a
hurry. Thanks
