Here is my dilemma. Have a 2007 Sonata GLS 2.4L with over 200,000 kms. As far as I know shocks and struts have never been changed. Got KYB Shocks and struts. Decided to start with Rear shocks cause it seems easy, just two bolts up top and the nut at the bottom. Well, I got the hardware off, but I cannot for the life of me get the **** shock at the bottom to come off the bolt. I sprayed a lot of penetrant and it might have freed it up some. Tried hammering, prying, hammering with pry bar. Tried my air hammer, but that did nothing. So last ditch effort was to use my angle grinder, I have grinded part of the shock(because grinding disc is round) I got it past the shock, rubber and metal bushing to the point where I can see the bolt that the shock is on but I still can't get it off.
I also can't get a good grip underneath the car to pull, so I get no leverage. This is driving me crazy. I want to get this done myself since I am so far into it. Makes me wonder if I am having so much trouble with this one shock, what's the other one going to be like and what about the front struts?
Someone please help, if you have experienced this or have any advise other than bring it to a garage. I know I can bring it there but I want to do it and learn at same time.
Thanks in advance,
Afrowookie
