I have a 2003 Hyundai Elantra with a 2002 engine. I am the second owner of the vehicle, and I just found out recently that the engine isn't original. Although, it was driving fine for the first two years.

My car has been giving me a lot of headaches lately. I was hoping someone might be able to help me. Recently, I had to have the crank shaft seal replaced. I was informed that this might be a problem in the future.

Not long after this repair the "check engine light" came on and the car began to shut down, but then start up again. I have had the spark plugs & gaskets replaced, a vacuum leak repaired, and a pcv valve replaced. The idle air controller is due to be replaced next. Now, I am being told that the car's computer has gone haywire and it seems replacing it still isn't solving the problem. The diagnostic codes are all wonky and messed up. Two mechanics and a master electrician have looked at it and they are all scratching their heads. It seems like the computer might be the route cause of all the other issues, but that is what the idle air control was supposed to be and it turns out that was wrong.

Can someone give a little insight into what this problem could be and possibly a solution? I can't afford another repair after this one, so this needs to be the final one or I am going to have to sell this thing or blow it up which might be more cathartic at this point...

I don't speak car so if you can break down your answer that would be helpful. Thank you for taking the time to read this over.
