Hi All.
I'm days away from trading my 11 Santa Fe for a 13 Sonata Hybrid. One of the things I use my Santa Fe for is my radio control hobby. I fly mostly helicopters and some airplanes. Everything these days is electric using lithium polymer batteries that require a LOT of current to charge. With a normal car you can charge 3 or 4 times but more than that and you risk needing a jump start. Some people have generators to charge the hobby batteries but that is a pain.
I did a search and some reading and it seems to me (so far) that this car has a conventional 12 lead battery and the lithium hybrid battery but if you drain the 12 volt too far will the car's hybrid battery dump some power quickly to recharge the 12 volt battery and start the ICE? Will it drain from both while off with a hobby charger attached to the 12v battery?
Should I just keep using the generator or will this car be slick and allow me to pull of both batteries for half a day and still get me home? I'm losing a lot of cargo room compared to the Santa Fe and bringing the generator will be even more of a hassle now.
Thanks!
